RE:construction
RE:construction is an intermedia performance of contemporary dance and at the same time a gallery of contemporary dance. It explores the themes of memory, heritage and recycling of works of art. The starting point is a subjective curatorial selection of more than twenty contemporary dance performances created in Slovakia over the past thirty years. Their fragments, movement principles and authorial manuscripts come to life in new interpretations by dancers, including the youngest generation, who actively participated in the creative process together with the choreographer. The performance is not only a reconstruction of the original works, but their creative reinterpretation. A living gallery of contemporary dance connects history with the present and opens up questions about the preservation of artistic heritage and its possible new contexts.
The project gained another layer of meaning also thanks to the location of the performance. It took place in the functionalistic complex of the hotels Slávia, Savoy and Diana in Trenčianske Teplice, which was undergoing a complex reconstruction at the time of the performance. The space itself thus became a natural part of the production and a metaphor for renewal, transformation and continuity.
The performance is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Contemporary Dance Association, which was founded as the first independent organization in 1996 by artists, students and teachers working in contemporary dance.
