Petra Fornayová focuses on contemporary dance and theater. Graduated at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, studied dance at the Academy for Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia and as a guest student at EDDC Dusseldorf, Germany. After dancing at Zuzana Hajkova's Contemporary Dance Group, later being a member of ballet of the State Opera in Banska Bystrica and being a member of Theatre du Movement in Paris, she has started her freelanced career. She has created more then 20 author's performances - Grass is Green, Manifesto of Possibilities, The End The End, Subjective Future, Opernball, Objects of Research etc. - being presented regularly at home and abroad (New Drama Bratislava, Divadelná Nitra Festival, Jamais Vu! Paris, Tanec Praha, Ars Cameralis Katowice, HybajHo! Praha, Korespondance CZ, etc.). The works Dance with Changing Parts (2018) and Patterns (2019), created in collaboration with the contemporary music Cluster ensemble, both premiered at Opera Nova festival in the National Theater in Prague, were nominated for the Tatra Bank Foundation Award for Art 2018 and 2019. She staged contemporary theatre plays (e.g. Vyrypajev, Bodnárová). She founded and leads the international festival of contemporary dance and movement theater Nu Dance Fest, is a member of the editorial board of the magazine for contemporary art VLNA. She is active in the field of cultural policies. In 2018, she was nominated for the National Film Award - Sun in the Net 2018 for the role in Juraj Lehotský's film Nina. She played one of the main characters in Mira Fornay’s film Cook F**k Kill nominated for the best film at Czech Lion Film Award 2021. Petra is a programm board member of the European City of Culture 2026 - City of Trenčín. Since 2023, she is the academy board member of Academy of Arts Banská Bystrica. In 2024, she has been part of the artistic team of the Slovak national pavillion at the Venice Art Biennale.
